Pepper grew up in Yazoo County, MS in the little community of Vaughan. Interested in plants since grade school, he built his first greenhouse when he was 15, where he grew tomato plants and flowers that he sold to the community…this was the original “Pepper’s Plants” business. After graduating from Madison Ridgeland Academy, he attended LSU (GEAUX TIGERS!) where he majored in Landscape Architecture. While there, he had a landscaping business called “Pepper’s Plants and Landscapes”. While there he also married the love of his life.
After graduating from LSU with a Bachelor’s of Landscape Architecture, he spent the next decade working in Land Planning firms in Hilton Head, SC and Memphis, TN. His move to southwest Desoto County coincided with his career move to Tunica County, where he serves as Director of Planning. In 2009 he resurrected his original business “Pepper’s Plants” and rekindled his love of plants.
He also was priviliged to share in the building of his first new greenhouse with his two young boys. In his spare time, he loves to work on his grandfather’s 1948 Farmall Cub, learning by (much) trial and error
Amy grew up Amy Salers of Jackson, MS. She and Pepper met at age 15 in the Youth Group of Colonial Heights Baptist Church in Jackson. When she graduated from Murrah High School, she briefly attended Hinds Community College before transferring to LSU (GEAUX TIGERS!). After College she worked mostly in the banking and finance industries. She now holds down three of the most demanding jobs in the world:wife, mother and homeschool teacher. In what little spare time she has, she loves to knit, crochet and engage in all manner of fiber arts. She also loves to threaten anyone who puts her picture on his farm website or blog.
Chris is 12 and loves animals, books, video games and anything superhero related: Superman, Spiderman, Ironman…basically anything ending in “man”. He takes his job as older brother seriously, and is in charge of the greenhouse when Pepper is at work.
Nick is 10 and loves to work and play outside as much as possible. He is always ready and willing to work in the garden or the greenhouse…especially if he gets to climb on it.
Both of the boys are members of Troop/Pack 412, where Chris is a Boy Scout and Nick is a Webelos Scout. They are also both looking forward to their 12th birthday, when they get to start businesses of their own.
